MALTBY STREET MARKET

There are so many new street food markets popping up around London from sprawling markets to a cluster of a few popup stalls but one place really nailing it is Maltby Street Market. We first visited June 2019 when the market was on one Saturday a month. Since then it has grown and now is open every Saturday and 

Sunday and is based around the Ropewalk in Bermondsey, South East London which is an alley full of character with many vendors based within the railway arches. Historic architecture meets the modern hipster vibe of the street food scene to offer a mixture of world food, bars and fresh produce.

The reason I think it differs from some other street food markets is the global influences; every stall seeming to offer different delicious delicacies from every country imaginable. The Ropewalk is decorated with a plethora of flags adding some colour to the scene and the railway arches adding the character. 

There is a mixture of regular traders and guest slots meaning there is plenty of scope to return time after time. Chose from Ethiopian, Vietnamese or local British scran. My only problem was I literally wanted everything. The mouth watering displays drew me in from the offset and the various aromas had me salivating from start to finish. 

There were plenty of drink options too with some permanent bars and pop up stalls too so whether you want a craft ale a cocktail or a funky soft drink you won't be disappointed. 

Whether you are looking for a snack or a meal you can choose anything from bao buns to fresh oysters, a loaded shake or freshly squeezed juice and everything in between. I left totally stuffed and with a bag full of goodies including incredible looking handmade scotch eggs, exquisite fresh pastries and even a big bag of fresh local fruit. A challenge anyone to get from one end to the other without finding something unusual they have never tried before. Go on, try and prove me wrong!
