In the heart of Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle you can step away from the sleek modern city into a bustling market which is a hive of street food heaven. Jalan Alor is one long, wide street and the night market is packed into every inch. It is a rich melting pot of different cuisines. Reasonably priced seafood restaurants line the edges, spilling out into the street. The centre is crowded with a diverse mixture of hawker stalls surrounded with colourful plastic tables and chairs. Malaysian food has so many different influences and they all converge here to offer a multitude of choices.
No trip is complete without trying a selection of exotic foods. The infamous Durian Fruit with it's stench was surprisingly enjoyable. The range of skewers was seemingly endless with everything from broccoli to exotic mushrooms, fruit, many unidentifiable fish, meats and sweet treats too. Nutella pancakes are a staple hawker choice and a must for our kids who couldn't resist pineapple on a skewer too.
We spent hours just weaving up and down, taking in the aromas from all the different stalls, standing mesmerised at the massive fish tanks and finally settling down on some plastic stools drinking ice cold beers for a spot of people watching.
One trip is never enough and we returned several times, arriving about 6pm before it gets too busy. We took the monorail to Bukit Bintang station and walked for 5 minutes.
